Shooting on northbound 405 Freeway in Van Nuys leaves one person hospitalized, possibly with life-threatening injuries, after shooting victim injured his back
A truck driver was shot while standing outside his pickup truck, eastbound on northbound 405 Freeway in Van Nuys on Sunday, sending the victim to Van Nuys Community Hospital in serious but stable condition.
According to authorities, a car driving at high rate of speed, allegedly weaving in and out of traffic on northbound 405 Freeway and attempting to turn onto westbound inbound 405 Freeway struck the victim’s vehicle from behind. Police said the car then fled the scene.
Police officers, who were already on scene, arrested the alleged driver, a 20-year-old man from North Hollywood.
According to Van Nuys Police Department spokesman, Lt. Patrick Renwick, it is believed that the man shot the victim after being pulled over for a road-rage incident.
The victim was taken to the hospital after the shooting for treatment. There were no immediate details on his injuries.
It is unclear whether the suspect was arrested. The police department will have no further comment until the suspect is booked.

UPDATE 7/16: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Alex Cora also confirmed that the victim is a truck driver.
The suspected driver, who was taken into custody, is identified as the 20-year-old man from North Hollywood, and is not considered a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and is in “critical” condition at Van Nuys Community Hospital.
