Doha: The two teams battling for the inaugural 2014 World Cup jersey clash in Doha on Monday. But both the Qatar Sports Committee (QSC) and the World Cup organizers have a lot to say about the designs.

It’s going to be interesting.

So what’s different?

“The only thing that is different is the number of players in each team. We want eight players from each team to be in the World Cup jersey,” she was quoted as saying by Doha Press, before the World Cup kicks off in two days.

In comparison, Germany and France have seven each, the likes of Argentina, South Korea and Spain have five each and Nigeria and Italy have four each.

But on a more practical note, Qatar has decided to send two players to each match in the World Cup jersey, and none to the group stage.

The Qatari team will include three outfield players in the World Cup and three in the group stage match against South Africa. A fourth player – one of the eight in the World Cup – will be withdrawn for their own safety in the event of injury during the tournament.

The number and position of outfield players to be involved in the same match depends on the squad’s position in the World Cup. If a player is involved in a match for their national team, they shouldn’t be wearing Qatar’s jersey.

If they are selected for the group stage, Qatar will send four outfield players to the match.

“We want six outfield players to take part in every match. However, we do not want to expose any players to risks. Therefore, we decided to send no outfield player at the World Cup, but will send one in the group stage,” she said
