Barack Obama has a message for voters of South Carolina: Get out and vote for me, because nobody is going to mess with this guy.
“Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric about Mitt Romney,” Obama said at a rally Saturday night in Columbia. “This guy is not only a conservative, he’s a Mormon and he’s also a great storyteller. He has a vision for America that is as aspirational and forward-looking as the American dream. And that’s great.”
Obama has been working hard to turn the state into an early vote state for the Democrats. He’s spent several campaign stops in South Carolina, and Saturday night was no exception. He was quick to talk up the state’s role in the upcoming presidential election, noting that Republicans had only “two shots” to win it back.
“The Republican field is a joke,” he said, referring to Romney’s campaign. “There’s no doubt they have no business being here.”
But as Obama talked about being the candidate who would get down to work, he also took a swipe at the other candidates and made the case that voters should rally around him and “look out for themselves.”
“Who will fight for you?” he asked. “Who will fight for you? That’s what I’m asking you to look at. Who will fight for you?”
His message took a jab at the other candidates, including Romney, who he accused of having no plan for the country he wants to lead and being unprepared for what life in the White House would be like.
He also suggested that the next president would be taking a “big vision” to the country for the first time in decades.
